About the Author
Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Health Information Technology Department at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York. She also teaches in the Health Information Management Department at Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner, Massachusetts. Ms. Green held the position of SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Physical and Life Sciences Department at the State University of New York, College of Technology from 1984 through 2016. An active member of the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), Ms. Green has been recognized both for her excellence in teaching and for her significant contributions to the health information management profession. She has earned numerous awards, including the State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, Alfred State College's Alumni Association Teacher of the Year, Who's Who Among America's Teachers and AHIMA's FORE Triumph Educator Award. Ms. Green is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), a Fellow of the American Health Information Management Association (FAHIMA) and a Certified Procedural Coder (CPC). She earned a B.S. from Daemen College and an M.P.S. degree from Alfred University. Ms. Green has authored three successful textbooks related to coding and health information management.

The book itself is fine but what they don't tell you is that you will have to drop an addition $155 for the real Mindtap access code, which is NOT the code that comes with the book.
It is poorly written. I would have been helpful to have seen more examples. Thankful our instructor provides the answers to the chapter exercises. However, the explanations in the book are not clear and simple. It would have been better to walk through the nuts and bolts and explain the "whys" along the way. To try and expect us to code something without enough information is unrealistic when you are needing to code to 5th and 6th digits. I spend more time trying to figure out what she is saying and still wonder if I did it correctly. I have to use this book in the online coursework but I cannot say I would keep the book after I am finished the coding portion of the degree I am seeking.
The book has a wealth of coding information. Great for students or for coders to brush up on their skills. However, there is one drawback. There are many case studies in the book to practice with, but there are no answer to the case studies. If you want to go over the case studies and need the answers than I do not suggest this book. I have tried everywhere to locate the answer key and thereisn't one. Sorry.This book was written for classroom use and must get the answers from your instructor.Why sell the book then if a former student cannot get the answers. I graduated and like to go over this book. Actually, this book was not used in my classroom studies. So people who have completed school and want to go over the book again and do not have the answers tells me they need to sell a seperate answer book. Yes, using the book in school and the student having the answers is cheating. But what about people who have graduated and want to study more? I did get the answer key from a former student or I would have ended up burning the book as it is worthless as there are no answers. This book should only be sold in college book stores since the answers are not supplied or it should not be used in schools and the answers provided to people who want to buy the book.The one's who make the decisions to use this book need rethink how this book should be utilized.In schools only without the answers or not in schools with the answers provided. It's confusing.Good luck! I want to order the 3rd edition to brush up on new issues, but then I won't have the answers. So it will do me no good.
Bought it for school--no answers in it so what is the purposr?
I purchased 3-2-1 Code It! for the first time last month. I needed a publication that would be beneficial for beginners and old-timers! This book is excellent! It is easy to read, provides awesome examples, and thus far I have found very few errors in the answer key. I also love the fact that a section of hospital coding is included (ICD9 Volume 3). I appreciate the examples for HCPCS coding as well. The best part is that ICD10 guidelines are listed and it demonstrates the differences between ICD9 and ICD10 coding. This book has too much information that overlaps each other. In addition, the information for ICD 10 should be separate from the ICD 9 to make it easier to read. The explanations could be much shorter than what they are. I am also annoyed at the fact that the book gives you reviews and no answers to confirm you are doing the work correctly. What idiot puts a book together and not provide the answers for review? I will make sure to burn this book and the subsequent work book when I finish this class. If I did not require this class to obtain my degree I would drop it. This book is a joke. No one in my class likes this book and there are 25 of us!

Full of information making my class time much more productive.
