The best guide I have seen to this scenic and historic region of California and the US. This book is a treasure. Well written and researched. Applause to Virginia Clark on this fine work.

We purchased this many years ago as we often drive 395, as we visited and lived in June Lake, CA., for many years. It has been very helpful as to the history of that part of CA.., and we wouldn't travel 395 without it. I have recommended it to others and they too have found it to well worth purchasing, as a guide to the history of the Owens Valley.

A friend loaned me a copy of this book. I live within a few miles of the southern end of Hwy 395 and had to have a copy for myself. Ginny Clark really opened my eyes as to how many places there are to visit along this highway. Thanks Ginny!!Larry L.

Loved every page of it.

The concept is a good one for a guide book of a very scenic region of the United States. However, the actual implementation of that idea if poor. The maps are horrible. Bad copies of old maps that are barely readable. The directions are confusing and difficult to follow. The writing is stilted and often confusing. Overall, I can't recommend this book at all.

Very disappointed in the book. I was hoping for something to use as a guide for traveling down 395, including good restaurants, motels, places to see, etc. It was in very small print and discussed at length the geology of each area. Waste of time and money for me.

One would expect a revised updated edition of a book to be better than earlier editions. However that may not be the case here. Although this book does indeed contain updated information and is formatted as a handy pocket edition, it falls short for me in a number of areas. Since I have a copy of the revised 1992 edition I found myself comparing the two books.This book is written in an odd truncated style which I found awkward to read. There are some obvious misspellings (page 33 - EL PASO MOUNAINS - WEST). Spelling of Mountain is correct in the earlier 1992 edition. How does one update and edit a properly spelled word in "bold" into a "bold" misspelled word? Some of the updated facts are not correct either. For instance, Jeanne (sic), proper spelling "Jeana" Yeager is not the daughter of test pilot Chuck Yeager, nor even related to him. The drawings, photographs, and maps in the earlier version are also much better.That's my opinion. Find a copy of the 1990/92 editions to compliment this book and allow you to more fully enjoy Ginny Clark's writing. My rating of this book is somewhere between "I don't like it, and it's OK". JA
