The Paris Secret: An Epic and Heart-Breaking Love Story Set in World War Two is by Lily Graham. The book begins in 1962 and goes back to World War Ii in Paris during the occupation by the Nazis. It is intriguing and definitely a page turner.Annie is headed to Paris on a train from Moscow. She was seated next to an old lady and she helped put the lady’s suitcase into the luggage rack. It was much heavier than it looked and she mentioned this. The old lady told her she never left home without her family. Within the suitcase, she carried pictures (in frames) of her family and other keepsakes. Intrigues, Annie settled into her seat as the old lady told her remarkable story. The lady, Valerie, had been brought up in England after being sent there by her Father for safety. It was only when she was grown that she followed her trail back to Paris. Her Grandfather owned a book store and ran it with his daughter Mirelle. Mirelle’s best friend Clothilde who lived next door was Jewish. When the Nazis took over, Mirelle caught the attention of a very mean Nazi. A high -Doctor just happened to come into the shop when he was needed. In order to protect Mirelle from this Mean Nazi, the Doctor moved into their apartment to keep Mirelle safe. Thus, the drama begins. The story Annie uncovered is absolutely entertaining and suspenseful. It does give a little peek into what it might have been inThe book is incredible.

Lily Graham has just topped all her other books, move over Kate Furnivall & others. There is a fantastic new author on the block. I loved & lived this book, enough to want to start all over at the beginning when I’d turned the last page. I defy anyone to deny that this is a fantastic story, told most sympathetically & one just feels the same emotions of Mireille, Valerie & dear grumpy Vincent DuPont. It’s so good to have such a super story without the graphic sex & foul language so prevalent in so many books. Keep up the great writing Lily. If I could I’d give this book TEN stars.

I absolutely loved this story. It kept me interested through to the end. Lots of information about the Nazi occupation of France in the 40's. Had some very sad parts but great ending to a beautiful love story.

Lily, The Paris Secret is one of my favorite books. I recently read several of your books and this one is my favorite. I love your characters. I loved how you drew the reader in with the older Valerie on the train. I know it was a heartbreaker, but you showed that even in the worse situations people on either side of a war can still care, still fall in love, still risk it all to save another. You have a true gift. I have a best friend who is English, so I truly appreciate your dry humor from the little old grandpa.!

Young Valerie was a darling character and so determined to find out about her family. The story was so entertaining and I'm happy to have been taken to Paris to meet these people. My favorite genre is WWII fiction. This novel fit perfectly into my collection!

I read a lot of WWII fiction and this love story set in Paris during WWII was definitely a winner in this genre. It was a real page turner with some smiles and some tears with a wonderful ending. It was a fairly short book and I think it should have been longer with more character development but overall I enjoyed it and definitely recommend it.The novel begins with Valerie in her 90s taking the train back to Paris. As she tells her story to her seatmate on the train, her past comes alive. When Valerie was 3, she was sent from Paris to live with her aunt in England at the end of WWII. She knew that her mother had died but wanted to know why her grandfather didn't want to raise her. In her early 20s, she manages to get a job in her grandfather's book store in Paris. She doesn't tell him who she is when she starts her job but tries to get more information about her family. Her aunt warned her ‘He gave you away for a reason, Val. I know that you want this fairy-tale reunion but I’m just not sure you’re going to get it.’ but she still persists in trying to find out her history. Will Valerie and her grandfather be able to help each other or will the truth open up wounds that will never heal?I enjoyed this short trip to Paris and wish this was a real bookstore that I could visit. This is a wonderful story about family and love and how they manage to exist even during the worst times. It's a book full of sadness at what could have been but also joy at the discovery of new friends and family. I highly recommend it.

Valerie has questions, many questions, about her mother, her past, and even the Aunt who raised her. As I read the book I formulated possible answers to each of her questions. Some I answered correctly, some not, but the book was well written so I kept searching for the answers. Even when I guessed the solution to the biggest question, I didn't mind that I had to keep reading for conformation for the reading was pleasurable.Paris, WWII, a bookstore, and a grumpy old man, this book provided enjoyable reading. Peopled with just the right number of characters who were interesting, with action moving along at a good pace, most historical romance readers who want more romance than history will enjoy this book. The publisher describes the book as an "epic". It is not an epic, but it is a pleasure to read.

Seriously wonderful story told with back story(s). I don't thin the 1700 stuff is accurate, but that did not stop my enjoyment.
