This is an excellent reference. It definitely doesn't contain the depth of a topic specific text book, but it organizes and summarizes many areas of study within a single all encompassing source. I just took the Environmental Engineering PE today (I'm pretty sure I passed, but waiting the 8-10 weeks to know for sure). I used this as my starting point for beginning to study for the PE exam. I don't necessary recommend reading it cover to cover, but I would focus on the key areas you will be tested on within the PE and pay attention to the sections where you are the least familiar. I don't think this is the only text you will need to prepare and to take the exam, but it definitely will give you a lot to go on and probably has 90% of the material you will need during the exam.I recommend living this book and reviewing it thoroughly well before the exam. Tab this book and know how it is organized.... and work plenty of practice problems and you should be okay. I also strongly recommend pairing this with a review course as this definitely helped me greatly.UPDATE: As of this morning, I have passed the Environmental PE on my first attempt. This book was invaluble in preparing for the exam. Make sure you know this book in and out.
Must have reference manual for the NCEES PE ENV exam. Everyone else in the room will have this, you should learn how to use it. Will not hit all the points though. Add Metcalf & Eddy, McCoy's, and your selection of air resources. Learn these and succeed. Best of luck!
I took three books to the Environmental PE exam - this one, the Civil Engineering reference, and the provided (downloadable) FE reference book. The Environmental PE exam was 100 questions. I used the Environmental reference for about 75 of the questions. I needed the Civil Reference for about 15 questions. I needed the FE reference for two of the questions. There were about 8 questions where I did not know where to look for the formulae, so had to guestimate.

Excellent review of engineering concepts. Very objective, but lacks finalize details in the process of calculations that will lose who does not have a solid foundation. Total is for engineers, who have approved these courses.Dr. Castañeda.
This is one book which every person giving the exam for PE Environmental needs to have. This book helped me the most in clearing my PE Exam.
