I cringe when I see the word "detox" in a title, I don't believe in detoxication as it is often presented. However, this regime is great for losing weight if you do it properly.The author of this book doesn't just provide you with recipes and tell you to go drink juices. She writes extensively about reasons to detox, how, why and even when to do it, she even gives the detailed shopping list for detoxication. I really like that part. There are many books with juice recipes for detoxication, but few of them go in so much detail about it.This is definitely not an easy program to follow and it probably isn't for everyone, but it works if you stick with it.

Although HTTP/2 is something that most of us are using every day without knowing it, understanding how it works can definitely be of aid to server, browser and website developers, among others.For those of you who regularly work with HTML in the way of content management systems like Wordpress, or even write your HTML from scratch, there probably is not enough information in this book to help you make any implementations in your website or in your design, practically speaking. This is definitely not a how-to book. It concentrates more on the history of the HTTP protocol, it's ongoing development and the primary differences between versions 1 and 2.For server administrators and developers this book delves into the additional capabilities that HTTP/2 provides and takes a jab at trying to answer the question, "Will HTTP/2 make my web server and websites run faster?" The answer to this question seems to come down to a resounding "it depends". A number of performance monitoring and debugging options for measuring your website's performance are explored, but you don't really come-away from reading the book thinking that HTTP/2 is some sort of magic bullet to improve performance. Obviously, this is not the fault of the authors. They are simply passing along very reasonable expectations given the vast complexity of different hosting and website viewer situations.For those of you who know little to nothing about HTTP/2, but do already know something about how HTTP servers and browsers work, this is an excellent starting point for understanding both the benefits and limitations of the latest upgrade to the HTTP protocol. It's brief 130 pages is a quick read and gives you a good, general idea of the ways the protocol has been updated and where it is probably headed in the future. The data is presented in a rather dry manner, but is most certainly more entertaining than sifting through pages of RFCs. If you still want to get into all of the really gory details, this book points you in that direction though.

This is a short book - only about 100 pages. You can probably read through it in a day, although the author assumes you have a pretty strong background in HTTP already. This book is specifically written as a jump-start for somebody who's familiar with HTTP 1.0 and 1.1 who's interested in understanding the new HTTP/2 protocol. If that's you, this book will be exactly what you're looking for. In fact, I appreciated that the author didn't spend pages and pages reviewing the TCP/IP stack and the HTTP/1.1 protocol - although there's a very brief refresher on HTTP, he jumps right into the details of how the new protocol. What page count he does dedicate to HTTP 1.0 and 1.1 is mostly spent reviewing the problems with the old protocol that HTTP/2 was designed to fix - which does a perfect job of setting the stage for the rest of the book.

This is a very interesting guide when you want to look into the introduction of HTTP/2. It starts at an actual beginning, noting the how and why to many a thing, and it also discusses history, different forms leading to this, as well as terminology and why these things are important. There is a who should/shouldn't read this at the beginning of the book as well (you can see this in the free preview), and I think this helps to note who would or wouldn't benefit here. Basically, it works best for the novice and for folks trying to acquaint themselves to the ideas here, but it is not meant for those wanting comprehensive information on items like debugging or the like.

Very readable book which explains the history of HTTP, the issues with HTTP 1.1 and how HTTP 2 addresses them. Although this book is quite technical, it remains very readable with quite clear explanations (for someone already familiar with HTTP).As the authors say, this book is not a comprehensive guide but it is an excellent introduction and should be all anyone needs to understand except for experts specializing in knowing the details of HTTP 2.This book is relatively short with only 130 very readable pages. Good coverage of the topic.

This book give a great overview of HTTP/2 and helped me to understand what problems it addresses over HTTP 1/1.1. I'd actually recommend it as a good starter book for anybody wanting to better understand how HTTP/2 works. I've done web development for years and this dives a bit deeper giving me a better understanding of why I should care about HTTP/2.

This is highly readable and easy to understand. It's not truly comprehensive, but it does tell you all that you need to know. It's a must read for all who do business on the web.

Why five stars? This "book" is short and to the point. The author is very clear up front. For five bucks you get concise instructions, not reams of razzle-dazzle that leaves you wondering what it is, specifically, that you are supposed to do. You should read through the book first to get an idea where you are going. It is short enough that you can do this fairly quickly. Then download the tool kit from the author's web site. Even that is made simple for you. From there, start following the instructions. If you are seriously interested in anonimity, this is a good way to spend five bucks. You won't regret it. Get this instruction set.

Definitely a great book, I must say that for it's price you get great benefits, with tips and recommendations a non-technical user can understand.Although I'm a more technical person, and I would have preferred more advanced techniques on becoming anonymous, and also when we consider that not any software is 100% secure. The author explains key advantages and disadvantages on using tor, or even tails. And focus most of the tips to stay anonymous without overwhelming the reading. Just straight to the point. I find this good and useful for any kind of user.Considering this is quite a cheap guide, it's worth a lot. 5 stars.

For those thinking of using Tails, some of the steps for verifying the tails download can now use a simple Firefox extension which has come out since this was published.Definitely glad I bought it.

Anonymous was a lot better than I had anticipated. It is a quick read and well worth the sub-$5-price. What I liked about it the best is that it outlines in cookbook fashion techniques for obscurity that are can be reproduced in the lab. Additionally, it gives one great fodder for contemplating the complexity and "completability" of what it means to be truly anonymous online. This book should be read by anyone who is paying attention to national events. I do recommend this book.

This is a wonderful little read, and definitely a step in the right direction for anonymity online. It is an endless subject and a lot of people are intimidated, flustered, or just don't have the time to learn how to have privacy online. This book will have you up and running in no time, give you insight on a wonderful Linux distro (no terminal needed), silently introduce you to the Tor project, and give you some sense of privacy on line at the end of the day. Five stars would have been given for a more in depth selection of anonymous email services (that really don't exist anymore) (MyKolab*), or a basic tutorial to setting up your own email server (not as hard as you would think). Nice job and worth every penny.

Unless you are Russian Spy, David Petraeus in a love affair or just feel the need to be total anonymous from time to time for whatever reason. This book teaches you 2 things. 1. The complete practical set up how to be anonymous online. 2. That those who tell you that they can do this with a quick fix are wrong.

Some great tips and information, especially from the author's site, but difficult for beginners to decipher due to some new changes made with TAILS. I also had to solve my computer's inability to boot from my flash drive. Will edit review once done with the setup but overall the steps are pretty straight forward.

About the Author

David Wienir is a business affairs executive at United Talent Agency and entertainment law instructor at UCLA Extension. Before UTA, he practiced law at two of the top entertainment law firms where he represented clients such as Steven Spielberg and Madonna. This is his fourth book. Previous books include Last Time: Labour’s Lessons from the Sixties (co-authored with a Member of Parliament at the age of 23), The Diversity Hoax: Law Students Report from Berkeley (afterword by Dennis Prager), and Making It on Broadway: Actors’ Tales of Climbing to the Top (foreword by Jason Alexander). Before becoming a lawyer, he was a professional river rafting guide, a speechwriter in the British House of Commons, and a host of Estonia Today on Estonia National Radio. I picked up this book because the cover art appealed to me, and because my sister spent several years in Amsterdam in the 70's, as the mistress of an older man who owned a hotel in the Red Light District. Like thousands of other young American tourists, in 1972 I too walked unconsciously through the District, gawking in fascinated disbelief and - having come of age in the 60's - not condemning the women who worked in the windows but also having no clue about the complexities of their lives.Not knowing what to expect from the book, I found myself fully engaged by the author's honesty, vulnerable self revelations, skillful writing, and reflective insights from his year of unconventional study in Amsterdam. Turning the pages eagerly at every opportunity, I came to care deeply about what happened between him and the young prostitute who became the focus of his research, and of an unexpectedly complex connection. While acknowledging the prevalent stereotypes about "hookers" that he admittedly shared before beginning his research, the author's core belief in basic human dignity and worthiness is evident throughout his narrative, as his complex, sometimes confusing experiences dissolve his naivete yet still affirm his sense of compassionate connection. I was sometimes amused, often touched, always stimulated to reflect on my own values, and ultimately uplifted. Definitely worth reading.

Subtitled “An American’s Journey into the Red Light District” is Wienir’s recollection of a semester away from law school to “investigate” the plight of prostitutes who sell their services in what must be one of the saddest streets in the world. Wienir’s “research” for the book took place in 1999 and because of his ballooning career and other matters that might have sidetracked him from his stellar rise as a Hollywood lawyer if he had published the book earlier, the book hits the market 20 years after the fact. This is David Wienir’s explanation for the delay. I don’t completely but it. This is a story that could be told about coming of age in many parts of the world. Nothing new here and I just can’t understand what we learn from Wiener’s revelations that we didn’t know already. If prostitution is the world’s oldest profession, writing about it must be the second oldest. You don’t have to be a California lawyer to fathom out what happens in the Red Light district of Amsterdam or in the brothels of Las Vegas or those along the Texas border or those in the hearts of most large American cities or those outside the gates of every military installation in the world. I’ve never been to Amsterdam, Mr. Wienir, but like they say, “Been there! Done that!”

What a fascinating and fun read! I couldn't put the book down and finished it the first weekend it arrived. Amsterdam Exposed tells the story of a law student's journey through Amsterdam's red light district in search of a prostitute who will help him understand this somewhat alien (to an American anyway) world. The journey felt real and offered insights into a part of Amsterdam I've seen and quickly fled, feeling very uncomfortable there as a woman. After this read, I think I would approach this with much more empathy and I appreciated this window into that world. I'm glad I read this and I highly recommend the book!

I picked the book because of its title. My wife and I bicycled Holland in 1998. The book takes place in 1999 so we had visited and shared some of the idiosyncrasies of the Dutch people as well as the places he mentioned.However, we only saw the Red Light district with glimpses of the girls in the Windows. David took me into this forbidden world I was afraid of and fascinated by at the same time. I loved his transparency in his feelings. His respect for the girls and his conclusions about them were more revealing than any glimpse I had gotten in my short journey. Thank you, David!

As someone who spent a year in Amsterdam studying abroad, I was excited to stroll down memory lane with David Wiener’s Amsterdam Exposed and to get to know more about the red light district, which I passed through frequently, but never frequented. I was not disappointed. I especially appreciated David’s eye for the details of Amsterdam (including the street names, the cafes and clubs), his passion for the Dutch people who welcome so many international students every year, and for capturing the magic of the city. I HIGHLY recommend reading Amsterdam Exposed. It was a great weekend read.

5 stars as I had no idea what went on in the red light district (other than sex) I read this book after reading a fictionalized account of a high end prostitute. The first being true, the second fantasy fiction. Prostitution is the world's oldest job and hasn't changed. I recommend this book as it describes the scary world some women live in in order to survive.

The book gives a very interesting insight into the infamous Red Light district of Amsterdam. In summary it is very much a human interest story of current issues related to the Red Light district. I felt it to be very realistic and a good read.

David starts his adventure in Amsterdam as a typical college student, mostly interested in booze and weed and curious about the Windows full of women in the red light district. After repeated refusals to his interview propositions from the women of the district, he finally gets a reluctant "maybe" from Emma. What follows is the beginning of a struggle to overcome fear of failure by both. It is an enjoyable journey.

World Class tells the story of how NYU Langone evolved from a venerable institution on the decline due to financial challenges to one of the best in the country. This remarkable transformation was primarily due to a dynamic CEO who focused on safety, quality and being patient-centered before these concepts were widely recognized and appreciated. The book is well written in a clear and direct style. There are many pragmatic examples that I found beneficial, such as how to formulate a road map. I particularly liked the speech in the appendix. Overall, I highly recommend it as blueprint for anyone interested in health care leadership or for understanding what it takes to achieve excellence in health care. Not every institution can be world class, but all can improve if they follow the example of NYU Langone.

Amazing book!

In less than ten years, NYU Langone Health was transformed from one of the worst to one of the best healthcare centers in the world in terms of patient care, research, and teaching. William Hazeltine tells that story for the first time. He had no prior relationship with NYU or NYU Langone Health other than becoming a patient (treated for head and neck cancer) while researching the book.He interviewed almost everyone centrally involved in the transformation from 2007 until 2017. There are four persons of special significance: Kenneth Langone (Vice Chair, NYU Board and Chair, NYU Langone Health; Martin Lipman (Chair Emeritus, NYU, and Trustee, NYU Langone Health); John Sexton (President Emeritus, NYU, 2002-2015); Robert Berne (NYU Professor of Public Policy, XVP for Health); and Robert Grossman (MD, Saul J. Farber Dean and CEO of NYU Langone Health, 2007-present).Hazeltine shares what he considers the most valuable to be learned from NYU Langone Health's transformation. Each is thoroughly discussed within the narrative, in context. These were of greatest interest to me:o "In organizational change the three most important variables are leadership, leadership, leadership. NYU Langone was transformed because it had strong and wise leadership [in its key positions] that established, pursued, and achieved impressive goals by executing well-crafted plans with great efficacy...within an aspirational culture."o "The crucial role of the dashboards may be a running joke among among NYU Langone insiders ['Bob and his dashboards!'], but it reflects an important development in organizational transformation: Large complex organizations require more than clear thinking about strategy and tactics. They require vast amounts of information. It's the only way to know what's being done, what needs to be done, and how well things are being done."o "Management by walking around is being supplemented by management looking at a dashboards. There are always things going on in an organization that management cannot see by walking around but can monitor by having the equivalent of thermostats, and sensors, dipsticks and yardsticks."o "Grossman's approach was to formulate goals and ask those charged with achieving those goals what resources they needed to get there. Then, he would let them run their own show. He was an enthusiastic cheerleader and optimistic observer, but he was not second-guessing his line managers. Instead, he would objectively measure their results and hold them to account if the goals they had agreed to were not met."o According to NYU Langone Health's former CFO, Michael Burke, "Doctors in academic centers tend to be hypercompetitive. Give them a dashboard and a scorecard, and they will strive to be at the top, whether they are in the hospital or the medical school. The dashboard allows very detailed comparisons." And yes, contrasts.As I worked my way through this narrative, I was again reminded of the fact that Toyota's assembly line innovations helped other automobile manufacturers to improve the quality of their vehicles, to be sure, but have also helped countless other companies in other industries to achieve comparable improvements. I share William Hazeltine's hope that the lessons learned from the adversity, transformation, and success at NYU Langone Health will help other healthcare centers to improve the quality of their own patient care, research, and teaching. And as has Toyota, it will help countless companies in other industries to demonstrate that higher quality really can be cost effective.

I received a free ebook ARC of this from NetGalley for a review.World Class is the interesting story of NYU Langone's transformation from a terrible medical school/hospital to an amazing one. This book was a mix of history, management, and medicine. While I sometimes got bogged down by all the names that were coming at me, this was a worthwhile read. The pacing was pretty good; Haseltine didn't spend too long on any one particular topic. The discussion of the IT changes and the physical changes they made were fascinating.I enjoyed, in particular, the chapters talking about their additional hospitals that they've acquired (or however they described it). The discussion of how the insurance-mix of patient populations affects the hospitals and how that can strengthen and weaken "safety net" hospitals was interesting.Overall, I recommend reading this if you're interested in a management profile, hospitals or healthcare of the future, or a feel-good business story.
